New Argentine Satellite SAC-D Weighing 1,405 kilos (three times as heavy as its predecessor) satellite SCA-D/Aquarius, designed and built in Argentina, is considered a true space observatory. Among other phenomena, it will study ocean circulation, the global water cycle and the Earth’s climate. It has also been designed to detect Earth high temperature areas for fire hazard mapping, and soil humidity areas for early flood warning. This is a cooperative international mission involving, in addition to the USA and Brazil, contributions from Agenzia Spaziale Italiana (ASI), Centre National d’Etudes Spatiales (CNES) from France, and the Canadian Space Agency (CSA).
